About NATOW

The National Alliance of Teachers and Office Workers (NATOW), also known as the Samahang Manggagawang Pilipino (SMP), is a duly registered national labor federation in the Philippines dedicated to advocating for the rights and improved employment conditions of all education workers. With a relentless commitment to enhancing the quality of education and work, NATOW collaborates with other unions, associations, and strategic partners to advance timely and relevant advocacies, working towards the achievement of industrial peace and decent work for all.

NATOW is a national, professional organization of teachers and education workers in the private and public sectors. It aims to:

  • Uplift the living conditions of teachers and office workers and promote dignity of work;
  • Equip members with essential trainings for collective bargaining and other necessary skills;
  • Establish solidarity among teachers and education workers through organizing unions in the private and public sectors; and
  • Create a harmonious working environment by bridging the gap between the employer and employees through negotiations

Empowered and Ready: Young Teacher Union Leaders Graduate from John Thompson Fellowship in Bangkok

Young teacher union leaders participating in the John Thompson Fellowship (JTF) concluded their two-week (2023 October 16-27) intensive leadership training in Bangkok, Thailand. The culmination day marked a significant milestone in their journey, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to lead and advocate for their fellow union officers. These emerging leaders are now poised to make a positive impact in their respective unions and contribute to the advancement of the teaching profession. Natow Phil delegates were led by Sis. Aylin Montalban (Jrufeu Natow, Mandaluyong City). Other NATOW youth leaders who participated include Bro. Ariel Almonte (University of Pangasinan Faculty Union), Pangasinan, Bro. Alvin John Gustilo (Central Philippine University Faculty Association, Visayas), Sis. Gracia Sotelo Leonen (SLC Educators Assocation, La Union) and Sis. Ernani Antol (Tumcs Fea, Rizal)
